George Formby was born in, Wigan, Lancashire,England, as George Hoy Booth, the eldest of seven surviving children (four girls and three boys). His father (James Booth) was George Formby, Sr. (1875-1921) one of the great music hall comedians of his day, fully the equal of his son's later success. His father, not wishing him even to watch his performances, moved the family to Atherton Road in Hindley (near Wigan) and it was from there that Formby was apprenticed as a jockey when he was seven and rode his first professional race at ten when he weighed under four stone (56 pounds, 25.4 kg). On the death of his father in 1921, Formby abandoned his career as a jockey and started his own music hall career using his father's material. On "Larry King Live," libertarian Penn Jillette and liberal Stephanie Miller debate whether or not President Obama deserves to be a punchline. "It's very weird that a lot of people are supporting him," Penn says on Obama, "even though he's doing a lot of the bad stuff... that Bush was doing." Stephanie replies: "Penn didn't like Bush or Obama, because he clearly hates America." At one point, it is mentioned that Rush Limbaugh had called Obama an idiot. "Anybody that calls Obama an idiot is just wrong," Penn argues. "You're a brilliant magician," Stephanie responds. "Can you make Rush Limbaugh disappear?" "I can only use my powers for evil; that's the deal I made with Satan," Penn replied. "So, no, I can't."

All In The Family, The Carol Burnett Show, Barney Miller, The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Chico & The Man... sigh...
