Dell Streak Reviews 1:54

www.mahalo.com Walt Mossberg, the most respected consumer electronics journalist in the world, is out with his review of the new Dell Streak device, which launches on Friday, August 13, 2010. In his review, published in ''The Wall Street Journal,'' Mossberg describes the Dell Streak as a "tweener device," adding that "depending on how you use it, the Streak can be considered a giant smartphone or a minitablet." Ultimately, Mossberg says he decided the five-inch Android tablet is more of a "very large smartphone." He goes on to say that because of its size, the Dell Streak "will be too large to carry around comfortably." Mossberg adds that the Dell Streak is "much lighter than the iPad...but heavier than many smartphones." Overall, Walt Mossberg said the Dell Streak "may well appeal to people for whom the iPad is too large to carry around, yet want some of the tablet experience coupled with a phone." He says "Streak buyers will have to overlook some of the shortcomings" he encountered. Engadget's review of the Dell Streak also covered the device's size, noting that "as long as you're not into hippie-tight pants," the Streak should fit in your jeans "like a regular phone." Engadget also praised the Streak's battery life as "impressive," and that it performed "pretty good" as a phone. As to the question of whether the Streak is a minitablet or a smartphone, Engadget says the latter. CNET has weighed in on the Dell Streak as well, calling the device "the first Android tablet ...

Dr. Laura Uses 'N' Word 1:52

www.mahalo.com Radio talk show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger has issued an apology saying she "did the wrong thing" after repeatedly using a racial slur during an August 10, 2010, on-air discussion with a caller. According to CNN, Schlessinger said the "N-word several times" during a conversation with an African-American woman with a white husband who called to complain that she was "getting fed up" with her husband allowing his family and friends "to say things that she felt were racist." The woman, who identified herself as "Jade," then asked Schlessinger if the N-word was offensive. According to the Associated Press, Schlessinger said "black guys say it all the time." She then repeated the slur several times. The AP says "Schlessinger did not direct the epithet at the woman, but said she used it to suggest how often she hears it, and that it should not automatically be cause for offense." When "Jade" objected, Schlessenger said "Oh, then I guess you don't watch HBO or listen to any black comedians." Towards the end of the call, Dr. Laura tells "Jade," "If you're that hypersensitive about color and don't have a sense of humor, don't marry out of your race." Schlessinger posted an apology on her website on August 11, 2010, saying "I talk every day about doing the right thing. And yesterday, I did the wrong thing." Schlessinger went on to say that during the exchange with the caller she realized she'd made "a horrible mistake." She said she was so upset she couldn't finish ...

Dustin Johnson Grounds Club in Bunker 2:09

www.mahalo.com Golfer Dustin Johnson was knocked out of the playoff at the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits after being penalized two strokes for grounding his club in a bunker. It happened on Sunday, August 15, 2010, while Johnson was in a three-hole playoff with Martin Kaymer and Bubba Watson. On the 18th hole, Johnson grounded his club in a sand trap. In golf, grounding is defined as touching the ground with a golf club before swinging. According to the official PGA rules, a player cannot ground his club in a hazard, which includes sand traps. The issue? Johnson didn't recognize the sand trap as such - he thought "it was a piece of dirt where the crowd had trampled everything down." Nevertheless, Johnson was penalized two shots and wound up finishing the tournament in fifth place after a decision that CBSSports.com Senior Writer Steve Elling called "one of the most controversial rulings in recent major-championship history." The rules for the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits stated that "all areas of the course that were designed and built as sand bunkers will be played as bunkers (hazards), whether or not they have been raked." The rules say this applies to bunkers positioned both inside and outside the ropes, which "will likely include numerous footprints, heel prints and tire tracks during play of the championship." Players were instructed to treat even these trampled bunkers as hazards. Whistling Straits is known for having numerous bunkers throughout its ...

Eli Manning Injury 1:28

www.mahalo.com New York Giants' starting quarterback Eli Manning sustained a nasty-looking head gash during a preseason game against the New York Jets on August 16, 2010. It happened during the second quarter of the game as Manning dropped back to pass. According to ESPN, Manning collided with Giants running back Brandon Jacobs just before he was hit by Jets linebacker Calvin Pace. Manning's helmet came off and as he fell forward, he struck the face mask of Jets safety Jim Leonhard. A stunned Manning got to knees and then found his feet, immediately heading for the sidelines, as blood ran down his forehead and face. Manning did not return to play. The Giants went on to beat the Jets 31-16. ESPN says Manning suffered a "3-inch laceration on his head" that required 12 stitches to close. In a statement released by the Giants, Manning said "I feel fine." According to the Giants, Manning "showed no signs of a concussion" and "an X-ray revealed no damage." Manning went on to say in his statement that "I feel normal. I'll be back as soon as I can. It's really not an injury. Nothing serious. I really could go back out and play right now if I had to." Manning took the blame for his injury, which apparently came on a busted play. Manning said "We had a run play with an option to throw a fade that I thought I might try, but Brandon was coming right up the middle. Sometimes you make a mistake and you get hit in the head. It's preseason. You learn from it. I'll be back as soon as I ...
