This is the opening theme for "Return To Peyton Place" (1961), the sequel to the 1957 box-office smash. Here, the score from the original film by Franz Waxman (who along with producer, Jerry Wald, was the only individual from the first film to work on the sequel), wrote with Paul Francis Webster, lyrics inspired by Allison MacKenzie's opening narration in the original. Rosemary Clooney, who at the time was married to the film's director, Jose Ferrer, performed the song. Along from an entirely different cast, there are some inconsistencies, which anyone familiar with "Peyton Place" will notice, different sets and locations were used (the exteriors from the original were filmed in Camden, Maine and here, they used Fox's Mailbu Ranch and Manmouth, California). Some characters from the first movie were eliminated from the script (Doc Swain, Mrs. Thornton, Betty Anderson, Norman Page, Mr. Harrington), although the characters did appear in the novel by Grace Metalious. For the opening and some of the New York sequences, stock footage from "Peyton Place" and "The Best Of Everything" (1959) were used. There also seems to have been a bit of a time warp - the novel is set post WW2 but it's clear that the time is portrayed as 1960-61, the time in which the film was shot.
